Boat Drinks 2019!

WOW! We can party with a purpose!
The Delaware Seashore Parrot Head Club presented a check for $12,395 to the Surfgimp Foundation on Friday, August 16th, at the Wheelhouse in Lewes. The money was raised as part of the Club's annual "Boat Drinks Bacchanal" held at Dewey Beach's northbeach in May. Over 350 parrot heads attended the event this year, which featured Jimmy and the Parrots, silent auction, raffles, and more. Each year, a local charity is chosen as the beneficiary for the event, and all money raised is earmarked to stay in Kent and Sussex Counties.

Surfgimp Foundation assists individuals with disabilities to participate in “limitless adventures” by awarding grant funding to help cover the cost of equipment, travel, lodging, support personnel/caregivers, admission/entry fees etc. so they can participate in activities of their choosing. The 2020 grant application will open October 15 and close on December 15, 2019.

The donation was the largest in the DSPHC's history. An additional $1,000 from the event was donated to Children's Beach House in Lewes.

The Charity:

The Surfgimp Foundation was established in November 2017, inspired by Jay Liesener, quadriplegic and self-proclaimed “Surfgimp.” Jay spent the last 10 years of his life cultivating a team who assisted him in his endeavor to surf. Team Surfgimp is comprised of many local residents who enabled Jay to experience the freedom of riding the waves in spite of his significant limitations given his disability. Surfgimp Foundation was established to provide grants for disabled people who want to experience their dreams the way Jay was able to experience his.

Surfgimp's mission is to support, through financial grants, individuals with disabilities who require assistance to participate in desired physical activities. Sometimes a disabled individual needs assistance from other people to experience their greatest adventures. Their vision is to help facilitate these adventures by providing support for some of the extra expenses that can be incurred such as equipment modifications, team gear, accessible rental vans, and more.
